Abstract

The present study aimed to design and prioritize an urban sustainability model for green communities in the metropolis of Tabriz, in response to challenges arising from rapid urbanization, including air pollution, shrinking green spaces, spatial inequalities, and weak citizen participation. Employing a mixed-methods (qualitative-quantitative) approach based on grounded theory, the research—after interviewing 15 experts and surveying 322 citizens of Tabriz—proposed a six-dimensional model. These dimensions are: sustainable environment, green urban design, social justice and welfare, corporate social responsibility, participatory processes and governance, and urban resilience and livability. The findings revealed that all dimensions significantly impact sustainability, with social justice and welfare having the strongest direct effect, while green urban design and participatory governance play a strategic role in achieving green community goals. Moreover, corporate social responsibility and spatial justice serve as important mediating factors in enhancing resilience and citizen satisfaction. This model can serve as a strategic framework for municipal authorities and policymakers to move toward a sustainable and human-centered city for Tabriz. By strengthening collaboration among urban management, citizens, and the private sector, it can help improve quality of life and protect urban ecosystems.
