Abstract
One of the acute issues in developed and developing societies is urban crime, which has occupied the minds of planners. Therefore, considering the pervasive presence of religious institutions in urban landscapes and the commitment of most of them to improving social harms, this article examines the role of religious land uses (RLUs) in Kerman city in reducing urban crime. In this regard, this study was conducted using a combined method based on examining objective data, the density of RLUs, the frequency of urban crimes and an environmental perception survey of the performance of RLUs and citizens' satisfaction (security and social). The sample size was determined based on the Cochran random method and 382 reference land questionnaires were prepared from Kerman citizens. The extracted Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.89, indicating the validity and reliability of the questionnaire with 12 items. The study of the frequency of RLUs in Kerman city showed that out of 308 existing RLUs, the first and fifth regions of the municipality have the highest relative density. However, in the sense of the frequency of urban crimes of robbery and fighting, these two regions have the lowest incidence rates. The evaluation of the Spearman correlation coefficient between the variables of the performance of RLUs and the level of citizen satisfaction with r2 = 0.571 showed a completely significant level. Also, applying the GWR test on the spatial variables of density and performance of RLUs, satisfaction and frequency of urban crimes, showed significant relationships between the variables.
