Now a day, increasing physical development and without planning of cities, cause reducing life quality in urban and un-urban communities. Given that, Ilam city like other cities had been faced with increasing population in recent years; we are faced with considerable change and conversions in urban land use of this city. In this study, with use of multi-temporal Landsat images related to years of 1976, 1988, 2001 and 2021 and using satellite image processing technique has been dealt to investigating changes in land use in the period of 1976 to 2021 and post classification comparison and with emphasis on projecting land use changes and especially the spatial expansion of city Ilam in 2031 and 2041 using CA-markov model. Based on results of this research, land use changes and area of city calculated and have compared. Results during the period 1976 to 2021 show increasing 1905/73 hectare of residential area and degradation of 2066/17 hectare of forest. In addition, based on forecast results, growth of residential land use from 2031 to 2041 is 6.9 percent. Based on that, residential uses with high increasing trend that are commensurate with the increase in population, however, agricultural land use in the region is projected to increase slightly with the three classes of forest, barren land and horticulture are calculated with decreasing trend, respectively.
