The physical development of cities located in the mountainous often occurs towards the hillsides. The hillsides as a result of glacial erosion in the Quaternary period have deposits characterized by permeability and grain separation, which lead to instability and environmental changes if combined with the steep slope, abundant rainfall, and earthquakes. Songhor city is a typical case of such cities. In this study, the slope instability potential in Dalakhani basin was investigated. For this purpose, the developing extent of glacial sediments was identified through the regression analysis of temperature and elevation as well as the sediment investigation. By defining instability indicators and using the fuzzy dimensionless method to homogenize parameters, the map of slope instability potential was produced. The findings of this study revealed that out of 1.7 square kilometers development, from 1987 to 2011, Songhor city expanded to the slopes prone to instability up to1 square kilometer. The map of slope instability potential also showed that half of the city was located in the area with high potential of slope instability. Furthermore, with respect to the physical development of Songhor to the high slopes, it is necessary to identify the areas prone to slope instability.

In recent decades, the quality of the urban environment has become one of the key issues in human environment studies. Measuring quality can be done not only on the basis of the objective environment but also on the basis of individuals’ perception of the environment to which they belong. In this regard, the environment quality can be also based on the satisfaction of citizens. Therefore, it is required to investigate how individuals consider the quality of the place where they live. This study aimed to assess the quality of the urban environment in Ajabshir, Ilkhichi, Malekan and Azarshahr and also investigate the status of these four cities in terms of quality indicators of the urban environment in order to identify the factors influencing the quality satisfaction in the urban environment. The research method was based on multivariable regression analysis known as the experimental model of measuring environment quality. In accordance with the results gained, the quality of the urban environment in the four cities was lower than the average. Moreover, according to the specific characteristics of small cities regarding social matters and the relationship between citizens, the content quality characteristic of these cities was in good condition. Totally, among the factors affecting the quality of the urban environment, the highest rank belonged to the quality of the residential environment.

Global Warming is now one of the most important environmental issues. In the present study, in order to reveal the effect of global warming on the climate of cities located in the Urmia Lake basin, the changes in 14 climatic variables were evaluated through Mann-Kendall test and least of squares error test in three time scales: annual scale, wet season scale and dry season scale. The results indicated that according to the tests done the minimum, maximum and average temperatures increased in both annual and seasonal time scales. The average temperature of the area increased by 0.06 degree Celsius annually and the maximum rate of increase was about 0.13 degree Celsius per year in Maraghe. The temperature of very hot days (with a maximum of 30 degree Celsius or more) increased and the temperature of very cold days (with a minimum of -4 degree Celsius or less) decreased. Total rainfall and the amount of heavy precipitation decreased. The average rainfall in the region declined by about 4 mm a year. The wind speed parameter showed negative, positive and stable trends in the area under study, but the relative humidity was negative in most stations. In general, the results of Mann-Kendall and Least-squares error methods were consistent. Overall, the trend of climatic elements was in line with the latest findings of the intergovernmental panel on climate change.

One of the main concerns of city planners and managers is how to fairly distribute and allocate urban resources and services in different areas of cities in proportion to the needs of urban society. Optimum distribution of services are directly related to the planning of land use and the successful planning of urban land use, in turn, depends on how the laws and aropriate policies create and employ efficient methods to provide and implement urban projects as well as land use plans. This study aimed to investigate how the urban resources and services were allocated and concentrated in different areas of Shahindezh city with an emphasis on social justice. The research method was analytical-comparative while using statistical techniques as well as practical models including Williamson index and Shannon Entropy. The findings of this study indicated that the majority of urban land use in Shahindezh was under common standards of the country that according to lack of space, it could be used for cultural, religious, and sanitary purposes. The results also revealed the unfair and unequal distribution of a number of activities and services in different areas of the city. Finally, investigating the spatial distribution of urban services indicated that there was a tendency towards concentration and polarization in land use in some areas of the city.

Today thanks to social justice and welfare schools, the concept of urban life quality has been more focused on; and in order to increase the quality of urban life in Iran, various discussions and efforts have been also done over the past years. In this regard, using the theoretical issues and the most important corresponding indicators, this study aimed to evaluate the life quality of Ghorveh residents, in general, and the differences between the life quality of women and men, in particular. The methodology employed in this study was descriptive analytical. The data were collected through qualitative field research, from libraries and questionnaires, and then were analyzed by SPSS software. The results of the study showed that the quality of life for Ghorveh residents was not at a desirable level and the average of indices was totally less than 3. The highest average was related to the neighborhood index with 3.24 and the lowest average was to do with economic with 1.99. The results obtained from the independent tow-sample T also indicated that there was a significant difference between the life quality of men and women in Ghorveh that is the life quality of men was better than that of women. Finally, the results showed that employment failed to improve the life quality of women.

The quality of life is a new concept, which is used in scientific literatures. In recent years, researchers have done many studies about this concept. The purpose of this work is to study the cultural-social quality of life in Iran’s cities. The method is descriptive. The method of data analysis is qualitative and quantitative. The results show that the quality of life in the studied cites of Iran is different. It seams that growth pole, core periphery, political economy, government and urbanization, environmental determinism and spatial diffusion theories can analyze the reasons of difference in the quality of life Iran cities.
